Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer

The key responsibilities and core activities of Geotechnical Laboratory Engineer are as follows:

Laboratory Testing and Analysis

  • Conduct standard soil testing such as Atterberg limits, grain size analysis, specific gravity, unconsolidated undrained triaxial compression and others.

  • Ensure reliability and accuracy of test data through rigorous application of laboratory procedures.

Data Management

  • Record, compile and analyse test results, providing detailed technical laboratory test report.

  • Utilise geotechnical software, such as GeODin and Topaz, to interpret laboratory data and create graphical representations of data for engineering use.

Quality Assurance

  • Participate in the development and implementation of quality assurance protocols.

  • Regularly calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure operational functionality and accuracy.

Technical Support and Communication

  • Provide technical support to project teams by interpreting laboratory results and making recommendation for testing programme.

  • Communicate findings effectively with the laboratory manager, project engineers and other relevant team member.

Research and Development

  • Assist in research and development activities to advance testing methodologies and introduce new technologies into laboratory practice.

  • Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements in geotechnical laboratory testing.

Safety and Compliance

  • Adhere to safety protocols within the laboratory environment to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies during the handling and disposal of test samples.

Requirement:

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Civil, Geotechnical Engineering or related field. Advanced degrees are preferable.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in geotechnical laboratory testing.

  • Relevant experience in ISO 17025 accreditation by Komite Akreditasi Nasional (KAN) will be advantageous.

  • Laboratory testing, familiar with ASTM and ISO 17892 test standards.

  • Strong technical proficiency in laboratory testing and analysis of geotechnical materials.

  • Familiarity with MS office. Proficiency in Excel VBA will be advantageous.

  • LIMS experience will be an added advantage.

  • Proficiency in excel VBA programming will be an added advantage.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Fluent written and verbal English proficiency.
