Job Description

Do you want to join our Geo-data revolution? Fugro’s global reach and unique know-how will put the world at your fingertips. Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.

The role:

As a Laboratory Manager you will be at the helm of Fugro’s Testing Resource Centre, steering it towards unparalleled growth and success. As the strategic leader, you'll ensure seamless operations of our laboratory, aligning with both national standards and our ambitious regional strategies.

Your role will be dynamic and impactful: from driving commercial and operational efficiency, maintaining our esteemed UKAS accreditation, to being a key player in shaping market trends and strategic opportunities. Regular interactions with senior leaders will keep you at the forefront of technology and best practices.

You'll lead and inspire a dedicated team, fostering an environment where high potential staff thrive. Your influence will extend to optimizing resources, aligning them with the UK Land and Marine strategies, and ensuring projects are delivered timely and profitably.

Take on the challenge of developing and executing our testing plans, all while mentoring a diverse and talented team. Your leadership will be crucial in retaining and advancing key contributors, ensuring our leadership capacity continues to grow and excel.

Who we’re looking for:

Imagine leveraging your degree in Geology, Earth Science, or Civil Engineering to lead and innovate. An MSc in Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics, or Geotechnics will set you apart. With 8-15 years of experience, you have mastered laboratory operations and ground investigation projects. Your understanding of geotechnical testing equipment and processes is indispensable to our success.

Picture yourself utilizing your 3-8 years of management experience to lead sizable teams and projects. Your proficiency in P&L will ensure efficient and profitable operations. Hold a BSc/BEng, preferably an MSc in related fields, and if you possess a Chartered Civil Engineer qualification, even better. Your fluency in English and ability to support both internal and external clients will foster strong relationships and add value.

You thrive on continuous improvement, always seeking opportunities to push performance boundaries and set higher standards. Your collaborative spirit allows you to work inclusively with peers, colleagues, and partners, positively impacting business performance. As a courageous influencer, you excel in communication, promoting open dialogue and empowering others. Your energy, passion, and respect create a positive and connected work environment.

What we offer:

Fugro provides a positive work environment as well as projects that will satisfy the most curious minds. We also offer great opportunities to stretch and develop yourself. By giving you the freedom to grow faster, we think you’ll be able to do what you do best, better. Which should help us to find fresh ways to get to know the earth better. We encourage you to be yourself at Fugro. So bring your energy and enthusiasm, your keen eye and can-do attitude. But bring your questions and opinions too. Because to be the world’s leading Geo-data specialist, we need the strength in depth that comes from a diverse, driven team.

  • Extensive career & training opportunities both nationally and internationally.

  • Competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme

  • Flexible working hours and the potential to work 2 days a week from home in accordance with your manager and corporate policies.

  • Option to lease an electric car.

  • Private Medical Insurance

Our view on diversity, equity and inclusion

At Fugro, our people are our superpower. Their variety of viewpoints, experiences, knowledge and talents give us collective strength. Crucially, we believe that getting this right brings a sense of belonging, of safety and acceptance, that makes us feel more connected to Fugro’s purpose ‘together we create a safe and liveable world’ – and to each other.
