Job Description
Do you want to join our Geo-data revolution? Fugro’s global reach and unique know-how will put the world at your fingertips. Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.
The role
Fugro are recruiting for a Project Surveyor to join our world leading geophysical survey department based at our waterfront office in Portchester on the UK’s south coast.
The Project Surveyor is responsible for all data quality across an assigned project; working closely with teams in the field to deliver the project objectives to the contracted schedule. The role includes working with the Project Manager and the client as the technical lead; shaping how the project is planned, managed and run.
The Project Surveyor leads, coaches and mentors other members of the team; promoting quality and ensuring that Fugro deliver industry-leading data to our clients. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain exposure to a variety of projects and data types; working in a range of markets (including renewables, UXO, pipeline inspection) and processing different hydrographic data types - great for those who enjoy learning and a varied career.
Whilst this is predominantly an office based role in Portchester, the Project Surveyor can get the opportunity to experience the offshore environment, working at the forefront of marine geophysical science, from time to time.
This job is for you if:
You have a strong technical understanding of hydrographic data sets including multibeam echosounder, GNSS tides, SVPs, USBL and backscatter;
You have experience of hydrographic data processing and report writing;
You have excellent attention to detail with a critical eye for data review and QC;
You are confident managing others, leading a team and interacting with clients;
You are highly numerate and literate and enjoy writing technical documents.
Who you’ll be working with:
On a daily basis you will be working closely with the project team; including the client, project manager, vessel team and surveyors. You will be responsible for leading the project processing team and reporting to the hydrographic processing coordinator.
Here’s what a typical week would be like:
Three days a week would be spent processing data, undertaking data QC and providing feedback to colleagues;
Half a day would be spent managing the hydrographic processing element of a project; tracking progress, planning tasks, assigning resources and managing the project delivery schedule;
Half a day would be spent leading or attending meetings with the client, Project Manager and project team as the project technical lead;
Half a day would be spent writing or completing QC on technical reports;
Half a day would be spent assisting the vessel with calibrations, technical issues or planning.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
A qualification in hydrography, ocean science or closely related subject;
A strong knowledge and experience of hydrographic survey techniques, in relation to both data acquisition and processing;
Experience of industry-standard hydrographic processing software, such as Teledyne CARIS, Fugro Starfix or Applanix POSPac;
Good verbal and written English language skills;
Desirable
Experience in line management;
Experience in project management;
Able to work offshore for periods of up to 4 weeks;
Experience in leading, coaching and mentoring others;
Experience and confidence in liaising with clients;
Offshore/practical experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.
Please note, you will need to pass an offshore medical prior to employment.
What we’ll offer you:
Benefits for this role include a competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme, life assurance, 24 days annual leave and private medical insurance.
