Job Description

The Senior Surveyor will be responsible for planning and executing positioning and navigation tasks and data acquisition on, and/or leads projects of medium to high complexity by ultimately being responsible for all surveyor-related aspects of the project, including the correct offsets, measurements and calibrations of positioning equipment, the set-up and/or operation of survey equipment, carrying out computations and the compilation of survey reports and the appropriate QC of data, computations and reports, solving complex problems or problems where precedent may not exist, proposing improvements of research methods and quality systems, providing technical input for tenders, assisting with the establishment and compilation of project procedures, making recommendations, including any supplementary investigation, contributing to acquisition activities and, taking on tasks that have been escalated by more junior team members. Often leads/coordinates the work of a small team and/or deputises the manager, but people management is not a focus. Requires a university degree and in-depth knowledge and experience of the organisation, processes and customers.

  • Responsible for planning and executing marine/offshore positioning, navigation tasks, and data acquisition, as well as leading projects of medium to high complexity.

  • Ultimately responsible for all surveyor-related aspects of the project, including ensuring correct offsets, measurements, and calibrations of positioning equipment.

  • Sets up and/or operates survey equipment, performs computations, compiles survey reports, and conducts appropriate quality control of data, computations, and reports.

  • Contributes to the production of the project execution plan.

  • Suggests improvements to processes and quality systems.

  • Provides technical input for tenders, assists in establishing and compiling project procedures, and makes recommendations, including for supplementary investigations. With Customer interactions.

  • Contributes to acquisition activities and handles tasks escalated by junior team members.

  • Often leads or coordinates the work of a small team and/or deputizes for the manager, though people management is not a primary focus.

  • Intermittent offshore assignments.

  • Compliance with Fugro’s Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment (QHSSE) Policy and successful completion of courses in HSSE and Quality as identified from time to time.

  • Mentoring of Junior staff.

Job Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada, without restrictions.

  • Possess a degree or college diploma in geomatics, hydrography, or geographic sciences

  • Have 5 years or more of offshore surveying

  • Offshore work is required.

  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Word and Excel.

  • Experience in Technical writing.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / Civil3D and related survey processing software considered an asset.

  • Experience in Technical writing.

  • Dimensional Control surveying experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of electronics and survey senor interfacing a plus.
