Job Description

Do you want to join our Geo-data revolution? Fugro’s global reach and unique know-how will put the world at your fingertips. Our love of exploration and technical expertise help us to provide our clients with invaluable insights. We source and make sense of the most relevant Geo-data for their needs, so they can design, build and operate their assets more safely, sustainably and efficiently. But we’re always looking for new talent to take the next step with us. For bright minds who enjoy meaningful work and want to push our pioneering spirit further. For individuals who can take the initiative but work well within a team.

The role

We are seeking an Instrumentation Engineer to join our Offshore Systems team in Wallingford.  Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role is ideal for someone with experience in electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering projects.  The successful candidates will thrive in a hands-on, practical environment and be adept at thinking on their feet.  While knowledge of oceanographic electronic instrumentation is advantageous, we are open to candidates with transferrable skills from other industries, as training will be provided.  The role involves ad hoc travel and working offshore, typically for periods ranging from 1 to 10 days, both within the UK and internationally.

The job is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same.  Excellent organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels are essential.  Additionally, the candidate should be flexible and willing to travel nationally on a regular basis.  In this role you will support the Project team and Project Manager in the safe and efficient delivery of real-time asset integrity solutions, both in the office and on-site.  A typical day might include assisting the project management team in the design and build of metocean monitoring systems, reviewing client specifications, auditing, reviewing and creating documentation, updating technical drawings, conducting site visits to audit client-owned instrumentation and assisting the Project Manager in creating documentation packages.

If you are looking for a role that offers variety, challenges, and the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, we would love to hear from you!

Who we’re looking for:

Essential

  • HND/HNC level or equivalent education with relevant experience

  • Strong electronic and mechanical engineering knowledge

  • Knowledge of marine instrumentation

  • Ability to fault find

  • Knowledge of telecommunication protocols

  • Knowledge of networking architecture

  • Demonstrable experience in similar role/field

  • Able to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with offshore, onshore and Client personnel.

  • It is essential that you are comfortable working at heights, as this role involves tasks performed at elevated levels.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Metocean specific instrumentation

  • AutoCAD experience

  • BOSIET or GWO marine training.

  • COMPEX certification

  • Experience in oil and gas, ocean science, renewables and/or survey industries.

  • Experience in leading and motivating teams

  • Experience managing and planning projects operations.

Please note, you will need to pass an Offshore Medical prior to employment.

Because to be the world’s leading Geo-data specialist, we need the strength in depth that comes from a diverse, driven team.

  • Extensive career & training opportunities both nationally and internationally.

  • Competitive salary accompanied by an attractive package including contributory pension scheme, life assurance and private medical insurance.

  • Flexible and hybrid working

  • Discounts and benefits portal

  • 25 days annual leave.
