Job Description

Are you passionate about maintaining a strong connection with maritime life while enjoying more time at home? If so, Fugro has the perfect role for you. Join us as a Vessel Manager in Nootdorp, the Netherlands, and experience a well-balanced mix of work and travel.

With many changes on the horizon, including the methanol conversion of parts of our fleet and the investigation of other methods to reduce carbon emissions, your role will be crucial in navigating this transition. As the distinction between onboard and onshore work is significant, you will ensure everyone is prepared for the future. You will contribute to sustainable marine initiatives and effectively communicate them to the onboard crew. As the crew at sea faces the greatest challenges, your guidance will be essential in leading them through these changes. Your task will be to future-proof your vessel and ensure its successful integration into the evolving fleet.

At Fugro fleet services we will match a vessel to your skills knowledge and experience. To leave room for you to grow. You may be assigned one geotechnical vessel or two geophysical vessels, depending on the time commitment, while still leaving time to make operational improvements such as better maintenance planning and reducing vessel costs.

This is primarily an office-based role; however, you will visit your vessel(s) at least four times a year to maintain strong connections with the crew. There may be exceptions where you will need to be away from home for a longer period, such as during a special survey or conversion. This arrangement provides a balanced work and travel schedule, ensuring you are not away from home for extended periods.

Your role

  • You manage your assigned vessel, ensuring high performance in availability, reliability, maintenance, and materials;

  • You will work closely in a self-managing vessel management team, collaborating with other VM's, TSI's, crewing officers, marine assurance officers, project teams, project managers, and clients to ensure seamless cooperation;

  • You are responsible for Leadership and Management and represent Fugro in all matters related to your assigned vessel(s). Lead and support your crew through significant transitions, including the methanol conversion of our fleet;

  • You drive sustainable marine initiatives and communicate these effectively to your crew. Your role is crucial in future-proofing your vessel and ensuring its successful integration into our evolving fleet;

  • You oversee the annual operational and CAPEX budgets, ensuring expenditures are controlled and aligned with planned amounts. Maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to maximize operational time and efficiency;

  • You are a member of the Emergency Response Team. In case of an emergency on the fleet you have an important role to play and responsibilities towards the safety of the crew and the vessel.

Your track record

  • You hold a BSc degree in a maritime-related discipline;

  • You have at least 3 years of maritime and management experience, including expertise in Dynamic Positioning systems. Experience as a Chief Officer, Chief Engineer, Captain, Technical Superintendent, or QHSSE Superintendent is advantageous;

  • You have strong understanding of international maritime regulations (STWC, SOLAS, ISM), safety standards, and best practices;

  • You possess or are willing to obtain BOSIET and HUET certificates;

  • You are a motivator who takes ownership and initiative, focused on business performance and striving for operational excellence;

  • You are available to travel for visits to ships and yards for audits when required.

What Fugro offers

  • A competitive salary;

  • 29 holidays per year based on a fulltime employment (of which 4 are appointed by Fugro management) and the possibility to purchase 12 additional days;

  • Fixed relief for the vessel assigned to you during vacations;

  • Extensive career & training opportunities both nationally and internationally;
