Job Description
Whether your project site is located at the bottom of the ocean or deep into a mountain range, it’s hard to tell what’s going on beneath the Earth’s surface. And how your project may be impacted by those ground conditions – or even at risk. That’s where you come in!
As our new Scientific Engineer, you will focus on the development of Fugro’s Geotechnical tools that are deployed across the globe. Your expertise on sensors and measurement combined with geotechnical expertise is key in our roadmap to revolutionize offshore, nearshore and onshore Iin-situ soil testing.
You work closely with clients, academics and internal experts to gather requirements and identify room for innovation. After we know what needs to be done, you liaise with hardware and software engineers to go from idea to value.

Your role
Develop new sensors for CPT and other in-situ testing tools;
Collect specifications and requirement by connecting with clients and end users;
Perform (on site) prototype testing and evaluate results;
Collaborate with hardware design and software teams to realize actual production;
Act as support line for client’s and end users when new solution is adopted;
Keep yourself up to date with market standards, write papers and attend conferences.
Your track record
A master’s degree or higher in Physics, Geotechnical Engineering, or relevant field;
Preferably 3 or more years of working experience in (offshore) soil testing, innovation, and/or sensor development or equivalent;
Proficient in scientific programming languages such as Python and computational modelling;
You are flexible for occasional travel to test sites and conferences;
You are a team player but also able to work independently.
It is considered a plus if you have
Experience with drafting papers and presenting at conferences;
Experience with basic data science practices;
Affinity with hardware design;
Familiarity with ISO standard.
