Padwalker, Senior Project Manager
"Fugro gave me various options at every stop along the way and I had the freedom to choose in which direction I wanted to develop."
Nootdorp, the Netherlands
Of course I didn’t become a Senior Project Manager overnight. I used to be an Engineer before I jumped into a Party Chief role offshore.
After a few years I felt I had spent enough time on board a vessel and was happy that I could move into the office. I started my role as a Project Manager and grew up the ranks.
Guru and mentor
As a Project Manager I have one role, but many jobs. I am also a Vessel Project Manager and find that quite exciting. I do not only look into the operations of the vessel but also manage offshore windfarms projects here in the North Sea. I had a lot of guidance and support during my career and find it important to do the same for others. Being a mentor -or a Guru, as it is called in my culture- to a mentee in Fugro is like handholding. I walk them through the company and the various departments. Ultimately, to make sure we get the best out of them.

Keeping everyone aligned during stakeholder meetings
Career decisions on the go
I could have taken a different role, like in research, a technical role or perhaps in the workshop. Fugro gave me various options at every stop on the way and I had the freedom to choose in which direction I wanted to develop. That’s the beauty of Fugro for me, it gives you opportunities.
