Fugro has joined a group of private sector leaders to support the President’s Emergency Plan for Adaptation and Resilience (PREPARE), an initiative co-led by the U.S. Department of State and USAID, with input from the Office of the U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. PREPARE was launched in 2022 and aims to help half a billion people in developing countries adapt to and manage the impacts of climate change by 2030. The initiative calls on the private sector to make significant commitments that will enhance climate resilience for vulnerable communities globally.
As the world’s leading Geo-data specialist, Fugro is uniquely positioned to contribute to this ambitious goal. Collaborating with governments, academia, NGOs, and the private sector worldwide, Fugro will help facilitate data-driven decision-making to meet critical environmental needs. These include understanding and restoring vital habitats like seagrass meadows; creating coastal resilience and adaptation plans for vulnerable nations; driving technological advancements to tackle climate change challenges on a large scale; and promoting offshore wind biodiversity initiatives to ensure nature flourishes alongside renewable energy development.
Fugro’s commitment was formally announced yesterday during Climate Week NYC at a PREPARE Call to Action to the Private Sector event, which featured Senior Advisor to the President John Podesta, USAID’s Chief Climate Officer Gillian Caldwell, and representatives from the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation. Fugro’s Global Director for Climate and Nature Robert Hoddenbach delivered Fugro’s commitment, pointing to the company’s growing resume of work in this area.
“We’re proud and excited to be participating with the White House in the U.S. government’s PREPARE initiative, which is perfectly aligned with our purpose to create a safe and liveable world,” said Céline Gerson, Fugro’s Group Director for the Americas and President of Fugro USA. “By collaborating with the U.S. government and other key stakeholders, we can leverage our expertise in Geo-data and advanced technologies to accelerate delivery of scalable solutions that address the urgent needs of vulnerable communities impacted by climate change.”
