UN Sustainable Development Goals
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call for action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity. Of the 17 SDGs, our solutions contribute in particular to five SDGs.
These goals are a good fit for us because they align with what we do, and how we do it. Namely: make impact by offering excellent services, being a good employer, a responsible company, and managing our impact on society and the world.
SDG 7: Affordable and clean energy
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
At Fugro, we offer site characterisation and asset integrity services for the development and operation of clean, renewable energy resources. Most notably offshore wind farms.
In addition, Fugro provides asset integrity services, and to a lesser extent site characterisation solutions, for oil & gas developments. This enables clients to develop, and operate fossil resources, in particular natural gas as a transition fuel, in a safe and responsible way.
SDG 9: Industry, innovation, and infrastructure
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation
Develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including regional and transborder infrastructure, to support economic development and human well-being, with a focus on affordable and equitable access for all.
SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
Fugro site characterisation and asset integrity solutions ensure the safe, sustainable development of various infrastructure assets. We provide the data, analysis, and advice necessary to improve their design, operation, and performance.
Our expertise when it comes to coastline and subsurface mapping helps protect cities, communities, and vital ecosystems from extreme weather and rising sea levels. Furthermore, our specialist resources and digital solutions help keep people safe in areas that are prone to earthquakes, environmentally sensitive, or urban or industrially complex.
We partner with governments, industry, academia, and research and development institutions around the world. And we participate in standard-setting organisations. We also lead an association in the Dutch maritime industry, which aims to develop technology for green methanol-fuelled vessels. Finally, we contribute to the development and adoption of clean technology for low-carbon vessel operations.
SDG 14: Life below water
Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development
We map coastal areas. Particularly those of vulnerable geographies. Our environmental baseline studies help understand, manage, and monitor the environmental impacts of our clients’ marine projects.
By partnering with UNESCO’s Oceanographic Commission, we actively support the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This programme aims to improve the coordination of and access to global ocean science data. Data that is necessary to reverse the cycle of decline in ocean health and create sustainable ocean development worldwide.
We also contribute to Seabed 2030, a programme aimed at mapping the entire ocean floor for scientific, environmental, and economic benefits.
SDG 15: Life on land
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
We offer advice on sustainable levee designs and water management. This way, we help minimise the impact of drought on flooding. On both terrestrial ecosystems and land.
Our digital asset management solutions help maintain and modernise electricity grids. And make them more resilient. These solutions also help prevent bushfires. Finally, we use our extensive know-how in aerial imagery to help prevent biodiversity loss.
