Job Description

Fugro is seeking a 2nd year undergraduate student studying an Earth Science related degree to join the Geotechnical team in Wallingford for a year in industry placement as a Geotechnical Engineer starting August 2025.

Over this 12 month placement you will gain hands on experience assisting engineers and geologists in performing field investigations, including doing soil descriptions, basic soils testing and in situ testing processing; helping in all aspects of report preparation both in the field and office, including data entry, data processing and the creation of plates for reports in accordance with Company procedures, quality, health, safety, security and environment (QHSSE) policies.

Who you'll be working with:

This role will require you to work with other engineers. You will also gain exposure outside our geotechnical team as you will also need to work alongside colleagues from other departments (e.g. laboratory, project manager, quality, health and safety, commercial etc.).

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collating, processing and presenting data on and running/leading of projects of low to medium complexity.

  • Processing of relevant data (including error analyses and corrections).

  • Performing administrative duties that include being responsible for maintaining accurate and complete survey logs.

  • Performing quality control/assurance checks on collated data and feature data for delivery to clients if required.

  • Recognising opportunities for process improvement.

  • Recommending changes to existing workflows.

  • Communicating needs to software developers.

  • Requires expertise in discipline applicable data processing/GIS software and keeps up to date on latest revisions.
