Job Description

Do you aspire to be at the heart of transformative projects that shape the future of vessel performance? We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer, in Leidschendam, the Netherlands, who will be a critical bridge between system integrators and Fugro’s operations, bringing visionary ideas to life.

In this role, you'll be in the front row in redefining how maritime technology is approached. You'll take ownership of the electrical aspects of groundbreaking projects, from conceptualizing designs to outsourced detailed engineering, serving as the key interface between suppliers and Fugro. By overseeing sustainability conversions and advancing digitalization through seamless system integration and remote operability, you'll create a lasting impact. This is your opportunity to move beyond a supplier-driven approach and take the lead from the end customer's perspective.

Your journey begins with contributing to either a major vessel conversion project or providing expert support for USVs. Fugro's diverse fleet includes Geophysical Research Vessels (DP0 or DP1 class), Geotechnical Drilling Research Vessels (DP2 class), and Inspection Vessels (DP2 class) equipped with advanced ROV systems for detailed inspection tasks. Through this work, you will be at the forefront of pioneering advancements in maritime technology and sustainability.

This is an office-based position that generally involves minimal international travel, with occasional short trips for project-related visits.

Your role

  • You act as the electrical lead in conversions or new built programs;

  • For electrical aspects you act as the  interface with the shipyard, aligning all stakeholders on scope changes and project progress;

  • You develop specifications and conceptual designs for electrical and automated ship systems, manage subcontracting, drawing approval and validate detailed designs;

  • You safeguard that standards are met and participate in maintaining the standards in close corporation with Remote ETO’s and focal points;

  • You collaborate with partners and suppliers, ensuring quality, compliance, and project success;

  • You present proposals to management, participate in tender processes, and coordinate with procurement;

  • You provide ongoing fleet wide support, including diagnostics, , system upgrades, and tailored solutions for retrofits;

  • You coordinate and attend FAT, HAT, and sea trials, including overseeing onboard activities.

Your Track Record

  • You bring extensive experience as a Lead Engineer, Automation Engineer, or Electrical Engineer, with at least 5+ years in system integration, preferably within the maritime industry. In addition you hold a BSc. in Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a comparable discipline;

  • You are pragmatic, proactive, and resilient under pressure, with a natural ability to make decisive choices and deliver results.

  • You excel as a collaborative team player with outstanding planning abilities, driving the successful execution of complex projects. Your expertise in project planning ensures efficient timelines and the timely delivery of results.

  • You have strong technical coordination skills, effectively managing interfaces between yard, sub-contractors and  internal stakeholders.

  • Having existing skills in cost calculation and budgeting to maintain financial control over projects is considered an advantage.
