Job Description

Fugro Loadtest provides the most comprehensive range of deep foundation testing and inspection services for all types of foundations around the world. Fugro Loadtest also offer short- and long-term geotechnical instrumentation & monitoring systems, on-site engineering supervision and consultancy services to verify the pertinent parameters associated with deep foundation installation.

The Principal Engineer will be tasked with developing geotechnical engineering project opportunities and markets, with particular emphasis on deep foundation design, testing and consulting as it pertains to infrastructure. This individual will lead geotechnical projects and programs of high difficulty and serve as the Subject Matter Expert and client contact for multiple complex infrastructure projects.

The role acts as the primary manager and client contact for multiple projects. You will supervise multi‑disciplinary project teams, and handle all aspects of consulting business, including participation in service line coordination meetings, business and client development, and direction of technical work.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works with and leads local teams to identify opportunities and use consultancy mindset to turn them into high-value projects that match company focus areas and strategy.

  • Supervise project execution ensuring the same level of delivery is provided according to what was negotiated whilst seeking opportunities to up sell company services

  • Initiate and upsell extensive contacts with key engineers and officials of other organizations and companies.

  • Be proficient in project management with a strong commercial mindset and good negotiating skills. Continuously seek opportunities to commercialize the full value the organization brings to assignments.  Continuously identify growth opportunities for the organization.

  • Ensures clear and consistent internal communication with local and USA teams to foster an environment of inclusion and transparency. Sharing and connecting individuals to better leverage opportunity pursuit.

  • Meet the business development and/or marketing objectives set by the General Manager.

  • Prepare and submit larger proposals including effective ‘win’ strategies

  • Deliver the successful completion of engineering projects

  • Direct team members or individuals assisting on projects.  Mentor performance excellence and adherence to quality standards.

  • Mentor staff professionals and help them grow and advance in the company.

  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company's processes, including the safety program and quality management system.

  • Promote commercialization of company digitalization initiatives and provide improvement feedback from the client and practical delivery knowledge.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the United States, without restrictions.

  • 15+ years of relative experience in geotechnical engineering, focusing on infrastructure and consultancy experience.

  • Master's or Ph.D. degree from a university in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Extensive experience in deep foundation testing using Osterberg Cell load testing, WEAP analysis, pile dynamic testing and pile integrity testing.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Effective client relationship management with a dedicated client base and the proven ability to produce annual revenue.

  • Proven leadership experience regarding business development and business improvement processes is required.

  • Hold a current driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.

  • Possess a valid passport or the ability to obtain for international travel requirements.

  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills including a comprehensive understanding of writing for engineering documents.

  • Able to negotiate technical, commercial, legal, ethical, and sometimes abstract concepts and communicate effectively and positively with internal and external stakeholders at operational, management, and executive decision-making levels and statutory authorities.

  • Stay abreast of current professional practices, periodicals, and technological advancements. Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations.

  • Advanced knowledge of technology including standard office and engineering software and equipment.

  • Travel up to 25% for this role is required.
